Travel information
General, extensive information can be found on the University's web page. Here's the short version:
Public transport from Bochum Hbf (central station) to RUB:
Line U35 provides direct connection, underground at the station and overground at the university. Trains leave every 5 - 10 minutes, the trip takes about 10 minutes.
Tariff is "Preisstufe A3," and there are a number of payment options, see ticket overview by VRR:
- Traditional paper tickets for single, 4 or 10 trips available at vending machines at stops, single ticket costs €3,10.
- Smartphone App "eezy" uses GPS-based check-in/ check-out to charge direct distance, needs subscription (1 month+), works NRW-wide.
- "Deutschlandticket" costs €49 for one month, valid on all local transport (bus/tram/local train) in all of Germany. Subscription necessary. Not valid on long-distance trains (e.g., ICE, IC, EC) or with private providers such as FlixTrain.
Note: "eezy" will always cap the prize at the cost of traditional ticket/ €49.
By car:
Arrival is via "Universitätsstrasse", either from west (Bochum city) or from east (Motorway A43). This map gives an overview over parking lots. The event is in building NB, former building NA has been demolished and turned into a big construction site. Possibilities for parking:
- P4 - P9 under the central campus are usually open, take exit "Uni-Mitte."
- P12 - P13 (exit "Uni West/ Gesundheitscampus"), also mostly open, few minutes walk across the campus.
- Open-air car parks at "University of Applied Sciences" at exit "Uni Ost", always open, few minutes walk to RUB/ NB.
Once, you're on campus:
This is probably the most difficult part. As noted, our school will be held in building NB, while the neighboring building NA was turned into a construction site, and a number of pathways around NB are therefore blocked.
Please have a look at this plan (courtesy OpenStreetMaps) which reflects the current situation. Find your way along the yellow diversions to get into buildung NB, either from N-Nordstrasse or from N-Südstrasse.
Once inside, we meet in the southern part of the building ("NB-Süd"), on the seventh floor (seminar room NB 7/173 for check-in, exercises and coffee breaks) or on the sixth floor (lecture hall NB 6/99 for lectures).
