Description

Topic in SoSe 23: Sustainability (UN’s Sustainable Development Goals)

Contents:

Interested in sustainability? Eager to do hands-on projects? Thrilled to explain science to a general audience? Then register for the Pitch-Your-Science course!

This term, with the overall topic “Sustainability”, you will work on Science Communication Projects in interdisciplinary groups and in close cooperation with the RUB Makerspace.

Such projects are related to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and are dedicated to some scientific aspect you find important to explain to a general audience.

In this course, you will develop ideas for products that aim to communicate science related to sustainability and pitch your product idea to a jury and other participants. Based on the pitches, we will select 6-8 products that you will implement during the winter term in interdisciplinary groups.

In your group, you will implement your projects at the RUB Makerspace with the help of the Makerspace Team. Projects could be anything from Clothing Collection, mobile games, interactive simulations, VR applications as well as a podcast and so on, but have to effectively explain science to the general public.

All products will be exhibited at the end of the winter term. For that, you will create a poster that explains the scientific background of your product.

Learning Outcomes after completion of the project:

  • Students know project management concepts and can work according to them.
  • Students are able to communicate and work in an interdisciplinary group.
  • Students have acquired the technical knowledge for the implementation of their project (3D printing, programming, laser cutting, ...).
  • Students recognize what knowledge others bring with them.
  • Students can create a poster that explains their product vividly and present their research projects accordingly.
