Description

Galactic diffuse neutrino emission describes the production of neutrinos in the interaction of cosmic rays and the interstellar medium. A better understanding of this neutrino flux could give insights into sources and the distribution of cosmic rays in our Galaxy. High-energy neutrino observatories like the IceCube Neutrino Observatory have not detected this flux yet, although previous results recommend that a detection could be within reach.

One analysis trying to find this signal is a binned likelihood analysis using up-going muon-tracks events from IceCube. This talk investigates different properties of the proposed analysis. Seven different theoretical models for galactic diffuse neutrino emission are presented and their signature in the analysis is shown. The correlation between the measurement of the galactic neutrino flux and the isotropic astrophysical neutrino flux is presented. Finally, the dependence of the performance of the analysis on the number of analysis bins is investigated.
